An out-dated waterworks was the reason why the board of Skaarup Waterworks close to the city of Svendborg decided to contact Kemic back in 2002 in order to have specialist advice regarding solutions for an overall renovation of the waterworks. It became clear that the old waterworks was outdated and could not comply with the demands on the increased water consumption of the village which expected a number of 200 extra households. Furthermore, there was also a wish in order to have the possibility of implementing an automatic control system such as cleaning of filters.
For future securing of the local water supply it was decided to carry out an overall renovation of both the waterworks as well as the three wells during 2002. As it became clear that the old treatment plant of Skaarup was far behind in times, it was replaced with a number of advanced pressure filters. However, the old oxidation plant was not completely closed down as the old tank was used for discharge of return water from the return flush of the pressure filter tanks. In 2007 a number of service solutions were increased by a double capacity of the pressure filter plants.
For securing of the water supply it was also necessary to increase the capacity of the raw water store, but not more than necessary as the waterworks’ three wells currently can keep up with a high production level and thereby ensure a large amount of fresh raw water. In 2007 the capacity of the waterworks was further increased and it was therefore agreed to spend some investments on extra pressure filter tanks in stead of increasing the storage capacity of 180 m³ raw water, as the three wells can easily ensure enough fresh water to the consumers with a total consumption of approx. 270 m³.
As an extra security for a sustainable water supply a circle network system to Svendborg municipal water supply is also established and this system can be connected within a few minutes. Kemic has based the production at Skaarup Waterworks on advanced technology which is automatically controlled. Moreover, it can all be surveyed and controlled from a PDA regardless of time and location. This means that you do not necessarily need to be present in person if the alarm goes off or in case of any changes or adjustments. With the renovations and extensions since 2002, Skaarup Waterworks has become an up-to-date and modern production plant which can supply potable water to both existing- and future consumers.
